Barney the Boat Dog is fun, warm and a delight to read for boys and girls, alike. Jim’s grandson, Freddie, has come to stay and he’s told Barney a secret. He’s brought his piggybank with his because he wants to buy Jim a birthday present. When suddenly the piggybank is swept overboard Freddie runs off to rescue it - and brave Barney knows it’s up to him to make sure Freddie stays safe… But Freddie seems to be acting very strangely as he clambers onboard another boat. All Barney can do is keep an eye on him from the towpath. Jim doesn’t know what’s going on and Barney can’t explain. It’s a worrying time for Jim but all ends well and Barney and Jim make some new friends.
